Oktaven Audio is a large-format recording studio in Mount Vernon, New York specializing in classical, jazz, and acoustic music recording. Designed by Francis Manzella, the studio features over 2000 square feet of total recording area with a 42' x 30' x 13' live room and up to six iso spaces of varying size, two 9’ concert grand pianos (a Hamburg Steinway D and a NY Steinway D), a large collection of microphones, preamps and outboard gear, and a variety of amps and instruments. Oktaven was founded in 2009 by Head Engineer Ryan Streber and CEO Jessica Slaven.
Audio Editor / General Assistant Job Description
Oktaven Audio is seeking a skilled audio editor/engineer to join our team. This role puts you in support of engineers Ryan Streber and Charles Mueller. Initially the emphasis will be on editing, however there is room for growth in the role, including assisting on sessions, setup, video, and potentially assisting outside engineers and producers on sessions.
Part-time, mornings, including evenings/weekends. Possibility for some remote work for the right candidate.
Audio Editor / General Assistant necessary competencies/qualities
Advanced proficiency in reading written music, from classical standard repertoire to contemporary extended techniques, graphic scores, and jazz charts
Advanced Pro Tools operation skills, both for post-production and tracking
Excellent perceptual and critical listening skills
Background in classical and / or jazz music
Able to understand a written edit map and a marked-up score
Familiar with recording environments
Familiarity with video systems and video editing (Davinci Resolve)
Trustworthy, friendly, polite, and very discreet
Excellent communicator, verbal and written
Able to prioritize client needs in session
Compliance with deadlines and time management
Able to work in a team
Audio Editor / General Assistant core responsibilities
Read and interpret editing maps independently
Compile clean, musical, seamless edits in Pro Tools from maps or marked-up scores and session documents
Print material for delivery to client
Comprehensively enter information about material edited and time spent into Harvest so that clients can be invoiced
File management and backup, both digital and paper, at Oktaven’s specifications
Ensure professionalism with clients and maintain confidentiality about assigned projects until they are released
Day-to-day cleanliness of the studio- dishes, lounge, floors, refuse/recycling, etc.
Arrive punctually for scheduled work
Carry out other duties per management request
